Review: 2012-2013 Fischer Guru - 178Ski: 2012-2013 Fischer Guru, 178cm
Dimensions (mm): 112-82-112 Camber, Symmetrical Flex, Symmetrical Sidecut Test Location: Park City Days Skied: 2 In my mind Fischer has seemingly been a dying brand in the realm of freeskiing. I honestly hadn't seen anyone skiing any of its skis in the park since it made the misfit many years ago. Its powder skis haven't received much attention either. Last year however Fischer decided to hop back into the scene. Its athletes have been standing on top of podiums worldwide. I was stoked to see what Fischer came up with. Many people complained about the 2011/2012 Fischer Guru skis being too soft. According to Fischer the 2012/2013 Guru has been stiffened up significantly, giving it more stability throughout the park, especially at higher speeds. I never had the opportunity to ski the 2011/2012 model, but I can attest that this ski has a perfect flex for all aspects of park riding. I generally love a stiffer park ski, and never felt that this one was too soft. Its flex seemed similar to the Scott P3. Even with the stiff flex, this ski is incredibly poppy. Seriously. It wants to pop off of everything automatically. I had an easier time popping onto tall rails, and off of the lips of jumps these things were like pogo sticks. The thing that most stuck out in my mind, however, is the weight of this ski. It is incredibly lightweight, especially for how stiff it is. The swing weight is almost non existent. Getting an extra 180 around becomes incredibly easy. All in all this is a great park ski. Symmetrical shape and flex make it a great overall park ski. Its stiff/very poppy flex makes it great on jumps and in the pipe. Its low swing weight means you might be able to squeek in that last 180 so you can finally get your 1260's dialed or maybe turn your K-Fed into a Super-Fed. I was shocked that at the end of the day I actually called my brother in law and told him that a Fisher ski was now on my list of top 5 favorite park skis. |
