Backcountry Access Tracker Beacon

Bottom Line:  This beacon is very easy to use.  It has a very easy learning curve so that even if it is your first beacon, it is not insanely complicated.  I don't want to get into how the beacon works exactly, but it is very simple.  With directional lighting and digital distance readings, the guesswork of finding buried victims can be reduced.  To celebrate the 10th anniversary of BCA, the Tracker is outfitted with a new strap that's as easy to use as the beacon itself. A series of improvements make the Tracker even more bombproof than before. As proof, it now comes with a 5-year limited warranty. Practice with your beacon often to keep you and your backcountry partners as safe as possible.

Pros:  Easy to use.  Lighweight (298g).  Digital display and dual antenna. This was my first year owning a beacon as well as a full touring setup.  I took an avalanche certification course and learned how to use this beacon.  I highly recommend you do the same!

Cons: It is hard to say that this is actually a con, but there are a lot of beacons out there with a lot more features on them.  They are also more expensive, and in some cases can be slightly more difficult to learn.

Backcountry Access also just released the Tracker 2 which has 3 antennas, weighs almost half the weight, and has a much longer range.  It is supposed to be just as easy to us.

A Beacon cannot help to save anyone's life if you don't know how to use it.  Even more importantly is learning how to avoid avalanche terrain and avalanche's in the first place.  In order to recieve proper training on how to use your beacon, as well as how to travel safely in the backcountry, please visit avalanche.org and find a course near you!
